Sarti is the east coast of Sithonia: a village on a long sandy beach facing Mount Athos across the water, with the best beaches on the peninsula on either side of it and a summer crowd of young Greeks and Balkan families that makes it the liveliest place on this side. The view of the holy mountain rising two thousand metres from the sea, ten kilometres away, is the thing you notice first and last.

The village beach is sandy and organised; the famous ones are minutes away: Kavourotripes with its white rocks and turquoise coves to the north, Armenistis and Platanitsi, Orange Beach with its beach bars, and Achlada to the south. The village has tavernas, bars and a square that is busy until late in August; the beach bars at Kavourotripes and Orange Beach run the days.

Villas are in the village, on the slopes above it and along the coast, several with views to Athos. Thessaloniki airport is an hour and fifty minutes, the longest transfer in Halkidiki and worth it.
