Hotels in Kriopigi

Kriopigi is the village on the pine-covered hill between Kallithea and Polychrono, with its beach a hundred metres below. The name means cold spring, and the village is older and cooler than its neighbours: stone houses, a square with a fountain, tavernas under the trees, and a road that winds down through the pines to a sandy beach with sunbeds and a beach bar.

The beach is the east-coast strip again, sandy and shallow, but here it is backed by the hill and the pines rather than a road, so it is quieter and shadier. The village looks over the gulf to Sithonia and Mount Athos on clear days. Kallithea’s bars are five minutes by car, Hanioti’s centre ten; the beaches of the west coast are twenty minutes across the peninsula.

A hundred metres below the village, down a road through the pines: sandy, shallow and organised, with sunbeds and a beach bar. The hill and the pines come down to the sand instead of a road, so it is quieter and shadier than the beaches of Kallithea and Hanioti next door. The west-coast beaches, Possidi among them, are twenty minutes across the peninsula.

Villas are on the hill in the pines, many with pools and the best sea views on this coast, and a few down by the beach. Thessaloniki airport is an hour. Kriopigi suits couples and families who want the beach and the nightlife within reach but not underfoot. Ask us for a shortlist with your dates.
