Afytos (also spelled Afitos, and Athytos in Greek) is the most beautiful village on Kassandra and the one that has kept its architecture: stone houses with wooden balconies, cobbled lanes, a square with plane trees and a church, all on a cliff sixty metres above the sea with a balcony view across the gulf to Sithonia. Below the cliff, reached by a path and a road, is a long sandy beach with tavernas and beach bars.

The village is lively in the evening without being loud: tavernas in the old houses, bars on the cliff edge for the sunset over the gulf, a folklore museum, galleries and shops in the lanes. The beach is shallow and sandy, organised at the village end and quieter north towards Kallithea. Sani and its marina are ten minutes, Kallithea’s nightlife five, Nea Moudania fifteen.

Villas are in the old village, in the newer streets behind it and on the slope towards the beach; several are restored stone houses. Thessaloniki airport is an hour.
